With the continued emphasis on recovery from the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, the Small Business Administration has appropriately scaled back its annual celebration of small business by reducing many aspects of SBA Expo ‘06.

The Expo will still seek to recognize America’s numerous small business owners, but it will not include the traditional sessions, business seminars, and awards ceremonies. SBA spokesmen state the cut backs were in response to the remaining work ahead in response to Katrina and not because of the proposed cutbacks in funding for many SBA programs.

The agency appears to be seeking some positive PR points after having received enormous criticism regarding its handling of emergency small business loans during the Katrina recovery efforts.
